Clothing Horses

Winter is on its way and our horses can get sick or even injured if they are allowed to get overly wet and chilled. While horses have evolved to handle certain amounts of cold weather, we have altered their ability to fight the cold by keeping them indoors and by clipping them. As a result, our beloved horses will need a little extra protection from the elements to avoid getting chilled and experiencing joint stiffness. This is especially true after a good workout. As athletes, horses work up a sweat while they exercise as a means of stabilizing their body temperature. This stabilization is important, but getting sweaty on a cold day can lead to illness.
The horse clothing and horse blankets available on the market today provide the perfect solution to this dilemma. Just as riders must wear layers and protective clothing in the colder months, horses also need protection from the elements to remain fit and healthy. You can protect your horse from chilly winter weather using turnout blankets, turnout sheets, and dress sheets. The breathable, water resistant, and durable rip stop fabrics used to make horse blankets and other types of horse clothing will keep your horse cleaner, warmer, and healthier throughout the winter.

Clothing Kittens

our kitten's top needs are food, water and a litter box. Kittens need higher levels of protein than adult cats so they will need food formulated for kittens for their first year. Water is easy just raid your cupboard for a small shallow dish, until you can find a more suitable one at a pet store or online. Next your kitten will need a litter box, a short one is a good idea to start with. I also strongly recommend avoiding clumping kitty litter because kittens can ingest it by licking or otherwise and it is designed to become a hard lump. Unfortunately, there have been reports of kittens ingesting clumping kitty litter and having symptoms such as vomiting a yellow frothy substance, diarrhea and even death. Look for non-clumping clay or biodegradable kitty litters such as those made from recycled newspapers, corn or wheat. There may be other organic choices available at your local pet store as well. Most kittens know by instinct what to do when given a litter box full of litter as a last resort you may shred unprinted newsprint for your kitten to use.

Clothing Dogs

While tiny dogs like the Chihuahua, Maltese and Yorkie are the first dogs that spring to mind when you think of dog clothing, in fact it can be difficult to find clothing that is made for dogs this small. Often times you have to buy puppy clothes instead of small dog clothes and there are differences. For example a Labrador puppy may be about the same size as a Chihuahua for a few weeks but his legs are going to be thicker and differently shaped. This means that while a puppy sweater may fit a Chihuahua it is going to be baggy around the legs.
The reason a good fit is important is that tiny dogs often don't wear clothing just because their owner thinks it is cute. Small dogs get cold very easily and their clothing serves the purpose of helping them maintain body heat. This is why unless it is a very hot day you will most often see little dogs wearing at least a sweater when they go outside.
So at least you know there is a reason to dress your tiny dog other than the fact that it is adorable.
